Parkfield Pavilion is a dream come true for Paul (Pop) Jolley and David Green. It was built in 1995 at a cost of £200,000 and is totally self supporting. The Parkfield land belonged to the Bellamy family who donated several acres of this beautiful setting to the parish council, plus grants from the Sports Council, Fenland District Council and the Rural Development Council along with donations made this sports and social area the envy of many. Parkfield pavilion was opened by former Premier Football League Kelvin Morton who was born at nearby Wisbech.
It hosts the village Old Boys football team formed in the 1930`s and fields teams in division three and four of the Peterborough League. Wimblington Harriers play in division five of the Peterborough League and Wimblington Warriors under 17`s (Cambs Colts League), Thomas Eaton School, Chatteris Youths and Benwick Youths also use the facilities. It is good to see the village cricket teams playing on a warm summers day and the £5,000.00 artificial wicket is hired by the Fenland District Council for youth cricket coaching. The magnificent £40,000.00 all weather track is kept busy with tennis, netball/basketball teams and archery can be seen there Sunday mornings. An ideal place to hold a social function such as quiz nights and live acts, a stewardess in employed full-time to run the social club which has a licensed bar and therefore membership rules apply.
