Thomas Eaton School

Thomas Eaton School

The Thomas Eaton School at Wimblington is a community primary school providing co-educational opportunities for children who reside in Wimblington and the hamlet of Stonea, although children from outside the catchment area are admitted if places are available.

Attached to the school is a free authority playgroup which children may join after their third birthday.

The children start their full-time education in September of the year in which they become five.  Pupils transfer into the secondary sector at the end of year six - that is eleven years of age.  There is also an active parent and toddler group which meets twice a week in a designated mobile on the school site.

At present the school may admit up to its physical capacity of 158 children.  Priority for admission is given to children from the catchment area and those who have elder siblings who are pupils at the school.  The school has seven classrooms, a playgroup mobile and a parent and toddler mobile.  All classrooms and corridors are carpeted to give quiet but industrious and homely atmosphere.

Following a significant building program, completed in April 1999, the school has a purpose-built computer suite.  This suite is used extensively by the pupils and also members of the community who subscribe to courses being held there.  As the suite also possesses internet access it is anticipated that individuals will wish to use it for independent research.

Other facilities on offer are a library, outdoor swimming pool, playing field with a sports pavilion, design and technology room, environmental garden, two playgrounds and a separate dining hall and kitchen. Thomas Eaton is proud of the links which it has forged with the village community over the many years.  It is actively involved in community events and support the village community committee and the elderly people of Wimblington.  On the occasion when the judges of the Village of the Year contest toured the parish the children held a band concert in the playground to welcome their visitors.

Parents and friends are always welcome to support and enrich the children's learning opportunities.  A wide range of extra curricular clubs also enhance the pupils experiences and the School Association works tirelessly in providing many extra resources for the children.
